Remedios Varo (b. Dec. 16, 1908, Anglés, Spain–d. Oct. 8 1963, Mexico City, Mexico) surrealist painter working in Spain, Paris, and Mexico. She entered Escuela de Bellas Artes (Madrid, Spain) at 15 and studied under Manuel Benedito. Varo relocated to Paris during the Spanish Civil War and was a member of the surrealist scene there.
